High-Resolution Surface Analysis with LiDAR: Uncovering Swiss History

The Swiss Federal Office of Topography (Swisstopo) provides swissALTI3D, a highly precise digital elevation model based on LiDAR data. By removing buildings and vegetation, it reveals underlying topography. This project improves data accessibility through visualization and an interactive online map, showcasing LiDAR's archaeological applications. For example, in eastern Switzerland, LiDAR data aided in the discovery of a Roman camp dating back to around 15 BC and other historical sites, highlighting its power in uncovering structures hidden beneath the surface.
