Yahoo's Mismanaged Dissident Fund Settles After Lawsuit

A fund established by Yahoo to support Chinese dissidents was mismanaged by its nonprofit partner, the Laogai Research Foundation, with most of the money diverted. In 2017, six formerly imprisoned Chinese dissidents sued Yahoo, Laogai, and its leadership. The settlement compensates the dissidents, and remaining funds will establish a new fund managed by Humanitarian China to continue supporting individuals imprisoned for their speech in China.
