Researchers have discovered a completely new class of virus-like objects in the human digestive system, dubbed 'Obelisks'. These RNA structures, approximately 1,000 nucleotides long, are unlike any known viruses and may represent an entirely new biological entity, potentially bridging the evolutionary gap between simple genetic molecules and complex viruses. Found in human microbiomes, Obelisks code for a novel protein called 'Oblins', but their impact on host cells and their transmission mechanism remain unknown.
