A Sony Computer Entertainment engineer recounts his experience developing the PlayStation 2's PS1 backward compatibility. Initially tasked with emulating the PS1's sound hardware, his work became obsolete when the chip was integrated into the PS2. Unexpectedly, he was then assigned to emulate the PS1's graphics processor, a significant challenge. He successfully completed the task, enabling most PS1 games to run on the PS2 and contributing significantly to its launch success.
