Waymo's Self-Driving Accident Analysis: Are Humans the Real Culprits?

This article analyzes 38 serious accidents involving Waymo self-driving cars between July 2024 and February 2025. Surprisingly, the vast majority of these accidents were not caused by Waymo vehicles themselves, but rather by other vehicles driving recklessly, such as speeding and running red lights. Waymo's data shows that its self-driving vehicles have a much lower accident rate than human drivers. Even if all accidents were attributed to Waymo, its safety record is still significantly better than human drivers.
